Rachel was misdiagnosed as having amblyopia or lazy eye as a child. She was told that it was “too late” for strabismus surgery or lazy eye patching for her. As an adult, Rachel was diagnosed with intermittent exotropia strabismus, anisometropia, convergence insufficiency, no depth perception, eye tracking and eye teaming problems, etc. Rachel later discovered Vision Therapy and as a result now has 3D binocular vision and depth perception (stereoscopic vision). Rachel wants everyone to know that life really is better in 3D!
Reading was exhausting for Jacob due to undetected eyes and vision problems. He was reading well below grade level. His reading problems included eyestrain and eye fatigue. The letters on the page would spin, shift, move around on the page when he tried to read. He was a middle school student and he was barely reading at a 1st grade level! His parents tried everything and nothing worked until they found Vision Therapy. In eleven months of therapy, Jacob jumped seven grade levels in reading and he now reads at a college level. His self-confidence has soared. He is now tutoring younger children in how to read.
Expert eye doctor Dr. Carl Hillier, FCOVD explains that children’s vision screenings or eye exams and tests need to test for much more than just 20/20 vision (distance eyesight at 20 feet). For example, a child diagnosed or misdiagnosed as ADHD, dyslexia (dyslexic), learning disabilities (learning disabled) or migraines (headaches) can have serious undetected vision problems that need to be tested w/ more comprehensive eye exam and can be fixed with therapy (NOT with surgery). Children need more than just a quick 20-20 eye test or vision screening! They need a comprehensive eye exam and visual evaluation with a developmental optometrist. Over 50% of children in Special Education and over 20% of ALL children have eyes/vision problems that are not related to 20-20 eyesight.
Dr. Robert Fox answers parents who ask, “Does my child with ADD or ADHD have a vision problem?” He uses easy-to-understand examples and his own personal story to explain how convergence vision problems cause poor attention, behavior, and reading performance that can then be labeled or misdiagnosed as ADD or ADHD. Dr. Fox explains what is and why another diagnosis called Convergence Insufficiency can be misdiagnosed as ADD ADHD. Dr. Fox tells about a successful treatment for Convergence Insufficiency called Vision Therapy.
